The TIGI Bed Head Hair Wax Stick debuted when President Bill Clinton was in the White House. Back then, it was a new tool for stylists who wanted to create versatile looks. The easy-to-use stick seemed to last forever, too.

While hairstyles and Presidents have come and gone, this styling stick remains virtually unchanged. Many of the attributes that made it a must-have back in the 1990s remain on point today.

Anthony Mascolo co-founded Bed Head in the mid 1990s, working with his brothers (Guy and Bruno) to create products for professional hairdressers (like himself) who wanted to push styling boundaries.

According to Marketha Rosborough, Bed Head by TIGI’s senior brand manager, when the brothers Mascolo couldn’t find the products they needed on the shelf, they created them.

Housed in a compact metal canister with a push up bottom that delivered product so it could be applied directly to the hair, TIGI Bed Head Wax Stick was one of those products.

“The wax stick was created as a hair styling innovation that could also be used as a tool, which became a cult product that took the industry by storm,” Rosborough told Happi. “Since 1996, Bed Head by TIGI has remained one of the most sought-after and trusted hair care brands on shelves and is loved by celebrity hairstylists, celebrities themselves and everyday people alike.”

Designed to fashion that slept in look that it’s named for, Bed Head Wax Stick can also be used to create the perfect bun and separate loose locks for braids.

“The Bed Head by TIGI Hair Wax Stick helps to create the most viral of looks right now including the slicked back pony, and a lot of texture inside of the short haircuts,” said stylist Shannon Bingham. “You can warm the product with the blow dryer to create an emollient texture, you can also take it and apply it directly to the hair, or just simply wipe off the top to create that slicked back ponytail feel.”

Stylists say it can be used to craft looks that fit into the Brat aesthetic—that 1990s-2000 party girl, edgy-but-polished look that’s everywhere this summer.

Not too shabby for a formula that hasn’t changed all that much over time.

Sustainable Stick

The stick, which is formulated with beeswax, Japan wax and castor oil (the latter of which conditions and smooths hair to provide frizz-free results), leaves a fresh and aromatic fragrance with notes of lavender, coriander, warm cedar and white musk.

And, as a solid format product, it is sustainable.

“As most of our users know, the Bed Head by TIGI Wax Stick is built to last and takes a while to use up all of the product provided—which is right on-par with the underconsumption trend we’re seeing on social media these days,” asserted Rosborough.

“I think the Bed Head by TIGI Wax Stick has stayed popular for so many years because it’s perfect for all hair lengths and easy to work in and wash out, so anyone can create their favorite style – whether it’s a sleek bun, a spikey look or just taming fly-aways in updos and braids,” said Rosborough.  “At TIGI, our purpose is to unleash creativity through awesome products — just like this hair wax and I think our products allow users to express their individuality through accessible, easy-to-use haircare.”

Bed Head by TIGI Hair Wax Stick is available at retailers nationwide including AmazonWalmartUlta and Target.
